NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Just Dropped A Video On How To Evade ICE — And Taxpayers Footed The Bill For All Of It

On Friday morning, Mamdani posted a professionally produced video on social media that walks viewers through step-by-step instructions on how to avoid cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

As reported by Western Journal, the video was filmed entirely in Spanish with English subtitles and shared on X with the caption, “If you encounter ICE, here’s what every New Yorker should know.”

The mayor’s framing is misleading on its face, because the message is clearly not aimed at “every New Yorker” but at a very specific subset of foreign nationals now residing in the city.

The content, tone, and language choice make plain that the real audience is Mexicans, Colombians, Venezuelans, and other Spanish-speaking migrants who have entered or remained in the United States in violation of federal law.

Data on language use in New York City underscores how narrow this target group actually is.

Research compiled by the Civic Data Atlas shows that only 3.7 percent of city residents aged 5 and older do not speak English at all, and another 8.3 percent say they speak it “not well,” meaning the overwhelming majority of New Yorkers speak English “well” or “very well.”

Building on those findings, Pew Research has indicated that illegal immigrants are among the least likely demographic groups to have strong English skills.

Whether by design or convenient coincidence, delivering the mayor’s message in Spanish all but confirms that his so-called public service announcement was crafted with illegal immigrants foremost in mind.

The video itself dispenses what could be described as generic legal advice that, in theory, might apply to anyone confronted by law enforcement.

Viewers are told not to open the door without a warrant, not to speak, and not to sign any documents without first consulting an attorney, all of which are presented as blanket guidance for those approached by ICE.

Mamdani then moves beyond neutral legal information and explicitly extends city-backed assistance to all comers, irrespective of their legal status.

“You are not alone,” Mamdani addressed the immigrant, adding, “Anyone can call the city’s immigration legal support line … regardless of their immigration status (emphasis added).”

He further reassures viewers that this hotline is “free and confidential,” a phrase that sounds compassionate until one remembers who is footing the bill.

In practical terms, “free” means that New York City taxpayers are compelled to subsidize legal support for individuals whose very presence in the country violates federal law.

The same dynamic applies to the production and promotion of the video itself.

Residents who work, pay taxes, and follow the rules are effectively underwriting the mayor’s decision to have his staff script, film, edit, and subtitle a tutorial that helps illegal immigrants resist federal immigration enforcement.

Mamdani does not stop at offering legal guidance and taxpayer-funded services; he goes further by encouraging political activism among those here unlawfully.

“The Constitution grants you the right to protest — and we will protect that right,” he says, signaling that City Hall will stand behind demonstrations by people who are openly defying federal immigration statutes.

For many Americans, especially those who still believe in the rule of law and national sovereignty, the spectacle is jarring.

Protecting an illegal’s right to protest federal law is like giving a burglar a megaphone to whine about your home decor, and at the current pace, the city might as well hand out picket signs and Molotov cocktails at the border.

What emerges from this episode is a revealing picture of the mayor’s priorities in a city already strained by crime, high taxes, and a mounting migrant crisis.

“Every New Yorker,” in Mamdani’s usage, appears to mean everyone except the citizens and legal residents whose hard-earned dollars are keeping this political circus running.
